Ian Dewson Lays Foundation for Future

The history of the renamed Rowan College of Burlington County, alma mater of Ian Dewson, began in 1966, with a nine-member board of trustees. In the following year the first president was appointed, Dr. N. Dean Evans. Temporary facilities at Lenape High School were used to open Burlington County College in 1969 with 728 full time students. By 1971 the Burlington County College had established its first two permanent structures, and in 1972 graduated its first class. Off campus facilities were opened in Willingboro in 1974 and Cinnaminson, Ian Dewson’s native home, in 1979. The Technology & Engineering Center was opened in 1995, and the new Integrated Learning Resource Library opened the following year.

At the time of Ian Dewson’s graduation in 2001, Rowan College at Burlington County had the highest enrollment of its entire history in the fall semester. The Business and Career Development Center where Dewson studied for his Business Administration 2-year degree moved to downtown Mount Holly in 2004. Rowan College at Burlington County broke records for enrollment again in 2005.

Ian Dewson attended Burlington County College in Pemberton, New Jersey during the first decade of the new millennium, working toward his Business Administration Associates Degree. Dewson had previously received honors from the Bill-Gordon-George Masters Memorial Football Club of Burlington County, having achieved notoriety and acclaim as a football star in his native Cinnaminson, New Jersey. Looking forward to a business entrepreneurship working with athletes in fitness, Dewson laid the groundwork of a successful businessman at Burlington County College.

Burlington County College, known today as Rowan College at Burlington County, RCBC, is a two-year community college in Burlington County, New Jersey. Rowan College Burlington County has two campuses, in Mount Laurel and Pemberton Township. Rowan College at Burlington County enrolls more than 7,500 students a year today, with a recent founding in 1969. Rowan College Burlington County offers Associates in Arts, Science and Applied Science, as well as certificate programs, and is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Rowan College at Burlington County community college opened its new Laurel Hall in 2002. A three story structure dedicated to academia, Laurel Hall, features a large computer room, a tiered lecture hall, and faculty offices on the first floor, while the second floor includes classrooms with full computer stations.

Working as a personal trainer and with other fitness specialists has given Ian Dewson a unique view on how to choose the right fitness center or gym. Which fitness center you choose to join, and therefore pay for, should be an informed decision. Location and convenience is always going to be a factor, but not necessarily the most important consideration. A fitness center that is only minutes from your home may give you a short drive, but won't be worth it if the gym doesn't provide the amenities that you need or want. Dewson is also aware of the fact that most gym sales associates can be very aggressive, and can sell you a package that doesn't always ring true. This is why it is important that you determine what your needs and goals are ahead of time, so you can ask the right questions.

When you join a fitness center, you aren't paying for the privilege of using their equipment or attending their classes. You are paying for services that they can provide. Just as you wouldn't pay for bad service at a restaurant or hotel, why would you shell out money each month for bag gym service? This is, again, where looking into the gym's amenities comes into play. Along with the proximity of the gym, Ian Dewson says to question whether it offers convenient hours of operation or child care, adequate machinery, and personal trainers on staff.

Ian Dewson on the Benefits of Meditation

Personal trainer Ian Dewson knows that there is more than one way to be fit and healthy. Along with a proper diet and plenty of exercise, he believes in the concept of meditation. Meditation can be described as a method millions of people use to keep their body and mind healthy. It is useful for relieving stress, and for gaining a sense of focus in life.

Ian Dewson Understands Why Weight Loss is Important

As a South Florida professional who is concerned with health, Ian Dewson is quick to tell others about the importance of weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight. This is not to say that everyone should be model thin or built like a body builder. A healthy weight will vary for every different individual. For example, a person who is only five feet tall should weigh differently than a person who is over six foot. Age and sex both play parts in a healthy weight scenario as well. Women tend to carry more body fat naturally than men. And as we age, our bodies start to store fat in different ways. Other factors like overall health and genetics will also contribute to the determining of what is a healthy weight or not.

Weight loss is a very common topic of discussion all over the world, and especially in the United States. According to the most recent studies, more than thirty-two percent of the adults in America are obese. This is an obscene number when you consider that this equals over eighty million Americans. Add to this that more than two thirds of the adults in the United States are overweight, and on their way to becoming obese. Researchers have recognized that this growing trend in overweight and obese citizens is not specific to any one gender, race, education level, or income level. It is an epidemic that is affecting every type of person in the country.

 Being overweight and obese can lead to many problems. Not only is health a concern, there are costs associated with the condition. Commonly, people who are overweight or obese are prone to illnesses such as diabetes, stroke, coronary heart disease, and hypertension. Also, there are certain cancers, like kidney, breast, and colorectal cancers, that are directly associated with overweight individuals. Obese and overweight people can suffer from gout, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, and gallbladder disease. There are hundreds of other ailments that are a result of being overweight. Most severely, being overweight or obese leads to a short life span. In effect, being overweight will kill you.

If those were not enough reasons to make you want to get healthy and fit, Dewson likes to illustrate the extreme costs that are associated with being overweight or obese. In one year alone, the overweight and obese population in America will spend more than one hundred seventeen billion dollars on medical treatments and pharmaceuticals to fight the ailments caused by their weight. Ian Dewson says, the productivity of these individuals also costs a great deal of money. Dealing with medical issues from obesity and overweight related illness leads to missed work and increased doctor visits.

Ian Dewson Discusses Cardiovascular Fitness

As an up and coming personal trainer in South Florida, Ian Dewson has learned a great deal about the importance of cardiovascular fitness. Sometimes referred to as the circulatory system, the cardiovascular system is the network within the body that controls a person's blood flow. When we exercise, our cardiovascular system is forced to work harder. This strengthens its ability to perform its given responsibilities to the body. Also, exercise promotes the system to deliver more oxygen to the entire body. Scientists and doctors have known for years that a person with a well exercised cardiovascular system is less prone to disease and illness, because their immune system is bolstered above that of a sedentary person.

A cardiovascular workout is designed to improve the entire system, to strengthen it, and improve overall health. Each time you complete a fitness routine that elevates the heart rate, you are teaching your body to function at that higher level of fitness.
